Ninja Woodfire Accessories Worth Buying (And What's a Waste)

After months of cooking everything from Neapolitan-style pizzas to pulled pork on our Ninja Woodfire, here's the honest breakdown of what's actually worth your money.

When we bought our Ninja Woodfire 8-in-1 Outdoor Oven, we made the same mistake almost every new owner makes: we bought too many accessories in the first month, and half of them are still sitting in a kitchen drawer.

After months of cooking everything from Neapolitan-style pizzas to pulled pork to dehydrated apple chips, we have a much clearer picture of what’s actually worth your money — and what’s marketed brilliantly but underdelivers in real life.

Here’s the honest breakdown.


What’s Already in the Box (So You Don’t Have to Buy It)

Before you spend a dollar on accessories, know what Ninja already includes with the OO101. The base purchase comes with the oven itself, a Pro-Heat pan for roasting and searing, a 12-inch square pizza stone, a roast rack, the accessory frame, a pellet scoop, and an All-Purpose Blend pellet starter pack.

That’s a generous starter kit. You can cook a real meal — pizza, roast, smoked chicken — on day one without buying a single extra item.

What’s not in the box is exactly what most people end up needing within the first two weeks: a cover, a stand, a longer extension cord, a real pizza peel, and more pellets.


The Buy-Immediately List

These are the four accessories we’d buy before firing up the oven for the first time. Total cost: under $80 if you shop carefully.

1. A Quality Cover

This is non-negotiable. Ninja markets the Woodfire as weather-resistant, and it is — to a point. We’ve seen what a New England winter does to outdoor electronics, and you do not want to find out the hard way.

Two solid options:

  • The official Ninja Premium Cover (XSKOCVR) — fits perfectly, holds up well, no surprises. The right answer if you don’t mind paying brand pricing.
  • A third-party heavy-duty cover — several on Amazon sized specifically for the OO100 series at about half the price. We tested one through two months of rain and wind and it held up fine. Slightly less premium fabric, functionally identical.

If you also bought the official stand, make sure your cover is sized for the oven and the stand together — there are specific covers for each configuration.

2. An Extension Cord (Outdoor-Rated)

This catches almost everyone off guard. The cord on the Woodfire is short — about 4.5 feet. Unless your outdoor outlet is exactly where you want to cook, you need an extension.

Get a 12-gauge outdoor-rated extension cord , at least 15 feet long. The 12-gauge rating matters because the oven pulls real wattage, and a thin indoor extension cord can overheat. We learned this from reading too many one-star reviews from people who grabbed whatever cord was already in their garage.

3. A Real Pizza Peel

You’ll technically never need a peel for the first pizza — you can slide a pre-built pizza directly onto a cool stone before preheating. But the moment you want to launch a second pizza onto a hot stone, you’ll discover this is essentially impossible without one.

Two options:

  • The Ninja XSKOPPL Perforated Peel is purpose-built for this oven. The perforations let excess flour fall through so it doesn’t burn on the stone, and the size is exactly right for the OO101 opening.
  • A generic 12-inch aluminum perforated peel does roughly the same job for less. If you already have a wooden peel, it works for launching but isn’t ideal for retrieving — wood doesn’t slide under a fully cooked pizza as cleanly as aluminum.

4. An Infrared Thermometer

The Woodfire’s display tells you the air temperature inside the oven. It does not tell you the surface temperature of the pizza stone — and those numbers can differ by 100°F or more. Stone temperature is what actually determines whether you get a properly puffed crust or a flat, pale one.

An infrared thermometer pointed at the stone tells you exactly when it’s ready. Before we owned one, we’d preheat for 20 minutes and still occasionally get an underwhelming bottom. After: every pizza, every time.

    The “It Depends” Tier

    These accessories are great for some people and overkill for others.

    The Official Ninja Stand (XSKUNSTAND)

    The official Ninja Outdoor Stand (XSKUNSTAND) is where most owners get genuinely conflicted. It’s well-built, fits the oven perfectly, has utensil hooks on both sides, and is compatible with the Ninja side table. It’s also more expensive than we’d like.

    Buy the stand if:

    • You don’t have a sturdy outdoor table or counter for the oven
    • You’ll be moving it between storage and cooking spots often — the wheels matter
    • You want everything to look intentional and matched

    Skip the stand if:

    • You already have a solid outdoor table or kitchen counter
    • You’re comfortable with a third-party grill cart that does roughly the same job for less
    • You’re working with a tight budget and want to spend that money on pellets and food instead

    We use the Keter Unity cart and have no regrets. It’s not as pretty as the official stand, but it works perfectly and has real storage underneath.

    A Cast Iron Tray or Griddle Plate

    Ninja sells a cast iron tray, though it’s often out of stock — we link to the Outspark porcelain steel pan instead. Same size, same fit, non-stick, and usually cheaper. Excellent for searing steaks, smashing burgers, and roasting vegetables you want browned underneath.

    Buy if you regularly cook things other than pizza and want to push into cast-iron territory.

    Skip if you already have a cast iron pan that fits inside the oven (most 10-inch skillets do). The Pro-Heat pan that came with the oven handles most of what a griddle plate does anyway.


    Pellets: What to Buy, What to Skip

    The hopper holds about a half cup of pellets at a time, and that lasts roughly an hour of smoke. If you’re smoking a 9-pound pork shoulder for 8 hours, you’ll be refilling several times. Plan accordingly.

    Pellets are for flavor, not fuel. The oven runs on electricity. You don’t need pellets every cook — only when you want that wood-fired character.

    Worth Buying

    • Ninja's All-Purpose Blend (cherry/maple/oak) — mild, slightly sweet, works on basically everything. Pizza, chicken, vegetables, fish. If you only buy one bag, buy this one.
    • Ninja's Robust Blend (hickory/cherry/maple/oak) — your BBQ blend. Use this for pulled pork, brisket, ribs — anything where you want classic smoke.
    • Kona Wood Pellets variety pack — eight 1-pound bags of different single-source woods. These aren’t officially Ninja-branded but work perfectly and let you experiment with flavor profiles without committing to a 20-pound bag.

    Skip (or At Least Wait)

    • Mesquite pellets — strong, almost overpowering. Some people love them on red meat; most find them too much. Try a small bag first.
    • Generic “wood pellets” that don’t specify food-grade — these can be heating pellets containing binders not meant for food. Stick to brands that explicitly say food-grade on the bag.

    Store all pellets in a dry, airtight container. Damp pellets smoke poorly and can clog the hopper. Summer is also a good time to stock up — we keep two bags in rotation through grilling season and replenish before the fall smoking runs.


    The “Don’t Bother” Tier

    Branded Pellet Scoops

    The oven comes with a perfectly fine pellet scoop. Ninja sells additional scoops for $7–8 each. There is no reason to buy a second one.

    ”Cooking Cheat Sheets” That Cost $25

    Laminated cooking guides that promise all the times and temperatures for every dish. Save your money — Ninja’s official quick-start guide covers this, and anything not in there is one search away.

    Specialty Cleaning Kits

    Pizza ovens get dirty. They’re supposed to. The pizza stone develops a dark patina over time — that’s normal, and it actually helps performance. Don’t buy a $30 cleaning kit. A scraper and a dry brush handle 95% of cleaning. For the oven interior, a damp cloth when cool.


    The Total Realistic Budget

    The essentials ($80–100):

    • Cover — $25
    • Outdoor extension cord — $20
    • Pizza peel — $20
    • Infrared thermometer — $20

    The “almost essentials” ($80–200):

    • A stand or grill cart — $80–200 depending on choice
    • Extra pellets — $20–30 to start

    The fun extras ($30–50):

    • A cast iron or griddle plate — $30–50

    Total realistic accessory budget: $190–350. A lot of online guides quote twice this because they recommend every official Ninja accessory whether you need it or not.


    A Few Questions We Get Asked

    Do we really need a cover if the patio is covered? If the oven is fully under a roof and never sees direct rain or snow, you can skip it. If it ever gets rained on, get the cover.

    Can we use any wood pellets? You can, but only food-grade — never heating pellets, which can contain non-food binders. Stick to brands sold for grills and smokers.

    Is the Ninja stand overpriced? Compared to a generic grill cart, yes. Compared to other brand-specific stands (Ooni, Solo Stove, and Gozney equivalents are all priced similarly), no.

    Do these accessories work with the OO100 too? The OO100 and OO101 share most accessories, but always check the specific listing. The newer Pro models (OG800, OG900 series) are different and have their own accessory ecosystem.
